What is Feed the Hood?
Feed the Hood started in 2016 when a handful of East Oakland neighbors loaded their cars with groceries and hot meals and drove them straight to the people who needed them most. There was no application, no intake form, no waiting list — just neighbors showing up for neighbors.
Nearly a decade later, that same mutual aid model has grown into one of the largest volunteer-powered food efforts in Deep East Oakland. Feed the Hood is not charity. It is a community deciding that no one on our blocks goes hungry, and organizing the people and resources to make that true.
What Happens at Feed the Hood Events
Massive Community Mobilization
Hundreds of volunteers gather to pack, load, and distribute food across the flatlands in a single day.
Mobile Distribution
Caravans of vehicles bring supplies directly to encampments and blocks where neighbors live.
Fresh Food & Hot Meals
Fresh produce, groceries, and prepared hot meals served with dignity, no questions asked.
Quarterly Signature Events
Larger seasonal caravans that pair food with hygiene kits, clothing, and resource navigation.
