Who It's For

The SuSu Financial Literacy Academy is a 12-month structured program for East Oakland residents ready to change their relationship with money — whether you are rebuilding credit, saving for the first time, or preparing to buy a home or start a business.
Curriculum
Financial Foundations
- Building a household budget that survives a hard month
- Understanding credit reports, scores, and disputes
- Banking without predatory fees
- Setting and protecting an emergency fund
Building Wealth
- Paying down debt strategically
- Homeownership readiness and down payment planning
- Introduction to investing and retirement accounts
- Protecting assets: insurance, wills, and beneficiaries
Cooperative Economics
- How SuSu lending circles work and how to run one
- Cooperative ownership and community investment models
- Supporting and starting neighborhood businesses
- Keeping dollars circulating in East Oakland
How It Works
Session Format
12 months of in-person and virtual sessions, with weekly Tuesday classes from 6–8 PM.
